What Is Discounting?

Discounting calculates the present value of payments to be received in the future. It accounts for when payments are received and the discount rate, rather than simply adding their face values. A discount factor expresses that calculation as a single number.

How to Use the Tables

Select the relevant number of months and multiply the fixed monthly payment by the factor. The tables use a nominal annual rate of 3%, a monthly rate of 0.25% and payments at the end of each month. Factors are truncated to the stated precision. Use of the file and its data is solely the user’s responsibility; users must independently verify the figures and their suitability before use.
